BRIEFLY FIVE-YEAR-OLD DIES IN NEIGHBOR'S POOL.


LANCASTER - A 5-year-old Quartz Hill boy who briefly wandered away from adult supervision drowned in a backyard pool, authorities said Saturday.

The boy, in the company of his grandmother, was visiting a neighbor's home in the 42000 block of Capistrano Place on Friday night.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the boy chased his soccer ball into the back yard while his grandmother talked with the neighbors in their front yard, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Sheriff's Deputy Rich Pena.

When she went to look for the boy, she found him and the soccer ball floating in the pool, Pena said.

 the boy, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 9:15 p.m.

The death is being investigated as an accident, Pena said.

Since early times carnivals have been accompanied by parades, masquerades, pageants, and other forms of revelry that had their origins in , an all-day rave party at Hansen Dam with live bands, carnival rides and a beer garden, police said.

Police and Fire Department personnel were stationed at the event, but there had been no incidents during the day, authorities said.

GLENDALE - A power outage Saturday left 590 customers without electricity for a brief period, said a spokesman for Glendale Water and Power.

Electricity went out at 4:48 p.m and was restored at 5:35 p.m., and affected customers within an area bounded by Larco Way, Glenoaks Avenue, Louise Street and Central Avenue, department spokesman Ritch Wells said. The cause was under investigation.
