BRIEFLY FIRE BURNS HOME AS OWNERS SNOOZE.


CAMARILLO - A fire consumed a Camarillo home early Sunday while the owners slept next door, fire officials said. The blaze broke out about 6:20 a.m. in the 300 block of Loop Drive, said Vicki Crabtree of the Ventura County Fire Department Not to be confused with Ventura Fire Department.

The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) provides fire protection and emergency response services for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, and for six other cities within the county.

Before firefighters from eight engines could extinguish it 20 minutes later, the fire had caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.

``The residents had apparently spent the night next door,'' she said.

City of Hope suit wrapping up soon

The Duarte medical center contends that South San Francisco-based Genentech intentionally concealed license agreements that required the company to pay City of Hope a 2 percent royalty for the use of drugs that were developed through the hospital's research.

Tire shop burns without injuries

LONG BEACH - Long Beach firefighters knocked down a noninjury fire that damaged a tire shop Sunday, a Fire Department spokesman said.

Missing child, 8, was with relative

BUENA PARK Buena Park (bwā`nə), city (1990 pop. 68,784), Orange co., S Calif.; inc. 1953. Food processing, the manufacture of aircraft, and tourism are important to the city's economy.  - A child reported missing in Buena Park was found by one of his family members, a police official said Sunday.

, 8, was found just before midnight near his Buena Park home, Buena Park police Officer William Kohanek said.

The child was reported missing at about 6 p.m. Saturday.

Buena Park police Sgt. Mike Jones said the child was found unharmed.

Beach city deaths blamed on gangs

HUNTINGTON BEACH Huntington Beach, city (1990 pop. 181,519), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast, across from Santa Catalina Island, in an oil-producing area; inc. 1909. It manufactures aerospace vehicles, aircraft parts, optical instruments, and heat transfer equipment.  - Two teen-age boys were found shot to death early Saturday in the Oak View section of Huntington Beach, the first slayings in the city in nearly two years.

Police responding to a report of a gunshot victim found Heriberto Tapia Vasquez, 16, shortly before 1 a.m. with a fatal wound to his upper body, said Lt. Ron Burgess Ron Burgess may refer to :

Police received a second call a few minutes later and found Oscar Gaytan, 18, also suffering from a wound to his upper body.

Relatives and authorities said the two were walking together when they were gunned down. The shootings are believed to be gang related.

No arrests have been made.

Sauna fire causes major damages

VAN NUYS - A sauna caught fire in a Van Nuys massage business Sunday evening, causing about $27,000 in smoke damage to the business, fire officials said.

It took 70 firefighters more than 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze, officials said. The business is located in a strip mall in the 13200 block of Moorpark Street.

No one was injured and none of the other businesses was damaged by the fire, officials said.
