City Councilman Alex Padilla Alex Padilla is a politician in California. In order to enter the Senate he had to resign as Councilman for the 7th District on the Los Angeles City  on Wednesday requested that a new park planned for the North Hills area include a police substation.

In a letter to the Department of Recreation and Parks, Padilla said the substation could help deter crime in the area surrounding the new Sepulveda Park West near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Parthenia Avenue.

The park will be developed on land where there once was a topless bar and where one lot has been vacant for more than 50 years.

``A police substation would go a long way in providing a more permanent solution to crime in the area and would further enhance the city's Operation Healthy Neighborhoods Program,'' Padilla's letter says.
