BRIEFLY FAMILY SUES CITY IN POLICE SHOOTING.


The family of a burglary suspect shot to death by Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police at the end of an auto pursuit filed a civil-rights lawsuit against the city Thursday.

The lawsuit was filed in state court, while an administrative claim was filed with the city. The claim can be amended and added to the lawsuit later, said the plaintiffs' attorney, Danilo Becerra.

Police officers may use deadly force in specific circumstances when they are trying to enforce the law.

GRANADA HILLS - A day after hundreds of parents and children protested the Metropolitan Water District's plans to close soccer and baseball fields on the agency's land, officials expressed optimism Thursday that the fields will remain open through 2005.

Assemblyman Keith Richman Dr. Keith S. Richman is a California, United States, Republican politician. From 2001 to 2007, he served in the California State Assembly representing the 38th Assembly District based in Northwest Los Angeles County. , R-Granada Hills, said the district's chief executive, Ronald Gastelum, assured him the fields will stay open through the end of next year.

Gastelum, in a letter Thursday to Los Angeles Councilman Greig Smith Greig Smith is a Los Angeles City Councilman, representing the 12th District, which includes Granada Hills, Northridge and other parts of the Western San Fernando Valley. Smith is also a reserve officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. , said the water district would be willing to consider extending the sports teams' leases but did not specify for how long.

Extradition issue in son's kidnap

A Chatsworth woman accused of kidnapping her son from Canada 14 years ago has not decided whether she will fight extradition, her attorney said Thursday.

Authorities tracked down Gisele Marie Goudreault last year, after her son typed his name into an Internet search site and saw he was listed as a missing child. Goudreault is being held without bail. Canadian authorities are seeking her extradition.
