BRIEFLY FAA GIVES $5 MILLION FOR SOUNDPROOFING.


BURBANK - The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority received a $5 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), component of the U.S. Department of Transportation that sets standards for the air-worthiness of all civilian aircraft, inspects and licenses them, and regulates civilian and military air traffic through its air traffic control  to insulate in·su·late

The grant would be used to help insulate homes in the cities of Burbank and Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  from the noise of planes flying overhead. Authority officials said that so far more than $30 million has been dedicated to that purpose. Four schools and 259 homes have been funded.

Allen Ave. crossing to close on Sept. 13

GLENDALE- On Sept. 13, the railroad crossing at Allen Avenue will be permanently closed. Concrete barricades and fencing will be installed to prevent vehicles and pedestrians from crossing over Allen Avenue at the railroad tracks.

The Allen Avenue Closure Project was proposed by the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Railroad Association as part of an assessment of the safety of existing railroad crossings.

Businesses and property owners in the area with questions may call the Glendale Redevelopment Agency at (818) 548-2005.

Motorists and pedestrians can use Alameda Street and Western Avenue as alternate routes.

Airport Hilton hotel honored for service

BURBANK- The National Speakers Association has honored the Hilton Burbank Airport and Convention Center with its 1999-2000 President's Award The President's Award may mean:
  • Gaisce - The President's Award, Republic of Ireland
  • NAACP Image Award - President's Award, United States
  • Rashtrapati Award - Award given by the President of India (Rashtrapati is Hindi for President)
 for Distinguished Service.

Joseph Kruvi, hotel general manager, accepted the award at the association's 2000 convention in Washington, D.C.
