Hollywood studio damaged by fire

Fire broke out at a Hollywood production studio Tuesday, damaging one building along with film and editing equipment, officials said.

There were no injuries in the blaze that started shortly after midnight in a building at Hollywood Center Studios on Las Palmas Avenue.

About 90 firefighters doused the blaze in less than two hours, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. The cause was under investigation.

Miscikowski gets No. 2 council spot

The Los Angeles City Council elected Cindy Miscikowski on Tuesday to its second-highest position - as president pro tempore president pro tem·po·re

Courthouse study to cost $840,000

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:
  • District 1: Gloria Molina, Democrat
 agreed Tuesday to spend $840,000 on studies of a proposal to renovate the downtown Hall of Justice.

The money will pay for an environmental impact report and other studies of the proposal to return the 1925-vintage building for use by county government. The overall renovation cost was last estimated at $136 million.

Contract reform plans announced

Mayor Jim Hahn, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo and City Controller Laura Chick said Tuesday they will tackle concerns often raised by companies trying to win city contracts, including the slow pace of bureaucracy and often-burdensome requirements.

Private eye faces weapons charges

Private investigator Anthony Pellicano was indicted INDICTED, practice. New high school's builder selected

The Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  will hire the Tutor-Saliba Corp. to build a new high school in Panorama City, officials said Tuesday.

Sylmar-based Tutor-Saliba will build East Valley High School No. 2 at the former Gemco store site in Panorama City, school officials said.

``We are confident Tutor is a highly capable builder who will get the job completed on time,'' said LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  Chief Facilities Executive Jim McConnell.
