Ex-priest gets eight-year term

VENTURA - A former Roman Catholic priest was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday for molesting two teenage brothers more than a decade ago.

Carlos Rene Rodriguez, 48, faced more than 10 years behind bars, but prosecutors recommended a lesser penalty because he pleaded guilty last month, sparing the two victims from having to testify.

Most of the incidents occurred at the boys' home between 1988 and 1993, authorities said. The victims were 13 and 14 when the incidents began.

Rodriguez was relieved of his clerical duties in 1993.

Victims told police the abuse started after the priest befriended their parents during a retreat in 1987 at Our Lady of Guadalupe
