Gangster wanted in wife's shooting

Los Angeles police Thursday asked for the public's help in finding a gang member suspected of trying to kill his wife.

Enrique Campos allegedly shot his wife in the abdomen about 3 p.m. Wednesday at her Tujunga home, said Los Angeles police Officer Renee Montoya. Detectives believe Campos is headed either to Pomona, where he is a documented gang member, or to Oregon, where he has family, Montoya said.

His wife was in stable condition at a hospital, a detective said.

Campos is 28 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds, and has tattoos on his back, right arm, left arm, hand and wrist. He was driving a white four-door 1994 Toyota Corolla with Oregon license plate YLN YLN Yue Loong Motor Company Ltd (Taipei) 093.

Count of failing schools wrong

California Department of Education The California Department of Education is a California agency that oversees public education. The Department oversees funding, testing, and holds local educational agencies accountable for student achievement.  officials said Thursday they have miscalculated the number of public schools that will be placed on a watch list because of their failure to meet federal academic targets.

Officials announced Aug. 15 that 345 schools in California had been identified for Program Improvement - a designation that requires them to either offer their students the right to transfer to better schools or to get tutoring help. But they have since withdrawn that list, citing computer programming errors.

State officials are now trying to compile an accurate list.
