BRIEFLY DISTRICT 3 COUNCIL RACE STILL IN LIMBO.


City Council candidates in the 3rd District race remained in limbo Thursday as they continued waiting for final results of Tuesday's primary.

While police union official Dennis Zine definitively took first place, the City Clerk's Office said, Judith Hirshberg was 164 votes ahead of Francine Oschin in a cliffhanger cliff·hang·er

Disabled woman rescued from lake

ENCINO - Two brothers rescued a 50-year-old Reseda woman Thursday from Lake Balboa after she touched the forward button on her electric wheelchair and was propelled into the water, fire officials said.

The woman, whose name was not released, had been fishing at the lake in the 6400 block of Balboa Boulevard at 1:40 p.m. when the incident occurred in water that was between 18 inches and 2 feet deep, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  City Fire spokesman Brian Humphrey.

3 female inmates targets of search

MOORPARK - Authorities continued Thursday to search for three female California Youth Authority offenders who walked off a job assignment at Poindexter Park in Moorpark and were believed to be still in the area.

The wards, classified as minimum security offenders, were missing during a 3 p.m. head count Wednesday, officials said.

Motorcyclist hurt beneath big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. Michaels performed with the group after the break up of his previous project, Operation Ivy, and before forming the band Common Rider.  

STUDIO CITY - A 44-year-old motorcyclist was treated at a local hospital and later released Thursday after sliding underneath a portion of a big rig on the Ventura Freeway The Ventura Freeway is a freeway in southern California running from Ventura to Pasadena. It is the principal east-west route through Ventura County and in the southern San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.  on Thursday, authorities said.

The motorcyclist had been traveling westbound at 4:15 p.m. when he made a lane change and his rear tire was clipped by a car hauler, causing it to slide underneath the big rig's tractor, officials said.

 seeks leads in hit-run crash

The family of a hit-and-run victim offered a $30,000 reward Thursday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver who struck and killed Gary Don Phillips, 38, as he attempted to change a flat tire on the Ventura Freeway a year ago.
