Truck crash kills man and his dog

SYLMAR - A pickup truck careened off a freeway transition in Sylmar on Friday, killing the driver and his dog, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 3:13 a.m. along the westbound Foothill Freeway transition to the northbound Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964. , said California Highway Patrol Officer Matthew Hill.

The truck somehow went off the side of the transition road and nosedived into a center median, Hill said.

The man was not identified.
