BRIEFLY DEPUTIES SEEKING IDENTITY OF GUNMAN.

Lancaster (lăng`kəstər), city (1991 pop. 43,902) and district, county seat of Lancashire, NW England, on the Lune River.
 - Several people in an apartment narrowly escaped injury Tuesday night when a young gunman opened fire after an argument, deputies said.

Deputies responded to a report of gunshots just after 8:45 p.m. in the 44200 block of Kingtree Avenue, where witnesses told them an argument had taken place earlier that evening in front of the building between the man who rents the apartment and an unidentified man about 19 years old.

The teen-ager returned minutes later with a handgun and fired several shots at the apartment full of people before fleeing, deputies said.

LANCASTER - Sheriff's deputies are investigating the destruction of yard signs supporting Proposition 22.

Landlord enters not-guilty plea

LANCASTER - A Lancaster landlord accused of shooting to death one of his tenants after an argument pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of murder.

Alvan Adams Alvan Leigh Adams (b. July 19, 1954 in Lawrence, Kansas) is a former professional basketball player. After starring at the University of Oklahoma, the 6'9" (2.06 m) forward/center was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 4th pick of the 1975 NBA Draft. , 48, is charged in the Feb. 21 slaying of 41-year-old Eugene Rufus Rufus, in the New Testament.

Adams called 911 and admitted shooting the victim, sheriff's deputies said. Adams had asked Newbern to move out, but Newbern had just paid the rent and refused to move, deputies said.
