Woman shot after knife attack on son

A sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a mother accused of stabbing her 11-year-old son. The woman reportedly lunged at deputies during an incident Sunday in Rosemead.

A neighbor called 911 about 12:05 p.m. after the boy walked to their house with numerous stab wounds, sheriff's Deputy Cruz Solis said.

Deputies found the Yvette Rios, 32, in the house holding an object they believed to be a knife with a towel wrapped around it, Solis said.

Deputy Edward Ramirez said after Rios refused demands to put it down, deputies used pepper spray and fired bean bag bullets. ``That only seemed to anger her,'' and she lunged at the deputies, Ramirez said.

One deputy fired, hitting the woman in the upper body, Solis said. She ran into another room but was arrested after deputies wrestled her to the ground outside.

Rios was taken to County/USC Medical Center, and her son was taken to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. Both were in serious condition.
