Highway projects hailed by officials

Elected officials on Wednesday celebrated highway improvements under Gov. Gray Davis' administration, pointing to the San Fernando Valley's signal synchronization program that should reduce delays by 15 percent on Sepulveda Boulevard, as well as new soundwalls on the 101 Freeway.

State Department of Transportation officials also announced a $19 million project to fix ramps along the Harbor Freeway that should shave 20 minutes off downtown commutes.

``The theme of this celebration is 'It all adds up,''' Davis said in a statement. ``Each of these projects is designed to make life better for the people of California and taken together these improvements are making a big difference.''
