Among the weapons seized when probation officers made 130 unannounced searches last month were eight handguns, three rifles or shotguns and one assault rifle, Antonovich said. Sixty-nine probationers were arrested as a result of the searches, 26 of them juveniles, he said. Since the program was started in February 2000, about half the probationers searched have been found to be in violation of the terms of their probation, according to Antonovich.
