Weekend Extension sale all about sewing

A Quilters, Crafters and Seamstresses Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lane County Extension Service, 950 W. 13th Ave.

The cash-only sale will feature hundreds of books, magazines and sewing items, as well as a raffle for a new sewing machine sewing machine, device that stitches cloth and other materials. The Register-Guard's annual Yule Log calendar will be published Sunday in the Oregon Life section.

The deadline for submitting items for the calendar has passed.

The holiday listing includes music, dance and theatrical performances, art shows and sales, open houses and special events that will be held through Jan. 3.

Used Mystery Novel Sale planned at library

The Friends of Eugene Public Library's Used Mystery Novel Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the downtown library.

Browsers can choose from thousands of popular, gently used detective stories and spy thrillers priced at $1 each.

Volunteers sought for parks restoration

The city of Eugene's Volunteers in Parks program is seeking volunteers to assist in restoration projects in the Whilamut Natural Area from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Volunteers will be removing invasive species

Vigil to support closing of combat school

A vigil will be held at the Free Speech Plaza at Eighth Avenue and Oak Street in downtown Eugene from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday to support the closing of the School of Americas, a combat training school in Fort Benning, Ga., that has trained more than 60,000 Latin American soldiers.

The annual gathering is sponsored by the Latin America Solidarity Committee. The vigil will include music and information, and will run concurrent with a similar vigil at Fort Benning.

Master Recycler training course set

JUNCTION CITY - Training in how to reduce solid waste and conserve natural resources will be held in the next Master Recycler training in Junction City.
