A pilot program to split the costs of sidewalk repairs between homeowners and the city of Los Angeles

 won the approval Friday of the City Council's Public Works Committee.

Councilwoman Wendy Greuel's proposal would set aside half of the $813,000 in sidewalk repair funds allocated for her eastern San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

There are 4,276 miles of sidewalks that need repairs, but there is only enough money this year to fix 52 miles, according to city officials.

Greuel's proposal is scheduled to go to the full City Council in about a month.

Valley panel gets city recognition

An advisory panel to represent people in West Van Nuys and Lake Balboa won official recognition by Los Angeles city officials Thursday night.
