BRIEFLY COLLEGE TO DISPLAY ILLUSTRATOR'S WORK.


VALENCIA - An exhibition of 70 images by Nancy Ohanian, a noted illustrator, will run through March 28 at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. .

Ohanian's work has been published in the New York Times, the New York Times, The

Morning daily newspaper, long the U.S. newspaper of record. From its establishment in 1851 it has aimed to avoid sensationalism and to appeal to cultured, intellectual readers.

Admission to the gallery is free. The exhibition will end March 28.

Power cut to area for Edison repairs

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. It provides 11 million people with electricity.  customers went without power for part of Wednesday because of system repairs, officials said.

Customers in the area near Dockweiler Drive and Sierra Highway in Newhall had been sent postcards alerting them that the power was going to be out from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Edison spokesman Glen Becerra.

He said the repairs were made on deteriorated equipment to prevent an unplanned outage. Power was restored by 2:15 p.m.

``We want to fix it beforehand,'' Becerra said.

Cell phone tower opponents prevail

SANTA CLARITA - The Planning Commission rejected plans to build a cell phone tower on Soledad Canyon Road, near the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. , agreeing with residents Tuesday that it was too close to nearby homes.

Sprint PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1.  wanted to build the 35-foot tower behind the shopping center on Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon roads, but several residents said they feared the tower would spoil views and lower property values.

Panel lets church add youth center

SANTA CLARITA - North Park Community Church will expand, and open a youth center next door.

The Planning Commission on Tuesday approved the church's request to take over another building in the shopping center on Seco Canyon Road near Bouquet Canyon Road where it holds services for the youth center.

The church has drawn complaints from other center tenants for creating a parking shortage, and many feared this new use would add to the problem. However, commissioners agreed that restricted hours of operation would offer a solution.

Restaurant's bar worries neighbors

SANTA CLARITA - A new restaurant that will include a full bar will be allowed to open in Newhall despite neighbors' concerns that it would hurt the neighborhood.

The Planning Commission approved Arthur Myers' plans Tuesday for a eatery on Lyons Avenue near Old Orchard Park. The menu is slated to include appetizers, hot sandwiches and chili for lunch and coffee and bagels in the morning.

Police officials said they did not expect the restaurant to cause any problems. However, Glenda Hotton, who runs a women's counseling center in the strip mall, said she thought the bar could pose a safety hazard.
