BRIEFLY COLLEGE GRANTED REACCREDITATION.SANTA CLARITA - College of the Canyons was granted reaccreditation for a maximum of six years - an important recognition that helps students secure financial aid and transfer units to and from universities. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges granted the school an unconditional reaccreditation in January after visiting the campus last fall, when officials met with faculty, staff members and students and reviewed the school's extensive evaluation and self-study. The commission's final report called College of the Canyons an excellent institution with a committed and innovative staff. It cited the school's efforts to create educational and support programs that reflect the interests and needs of the students, and congratulated Superintendent-President Dianne Van Hook for her strong leadership. College of the Canyons first received accreditation from the association in 1972. - Daily News |
