BRIEFLY COLLEGE'S CHOIRS TO JOIN IN CONCERT.


VALENCIA - The four College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  choirs will blend their voices into one during the Spring Choral Concert to take place at 7 p.m. May 17 in the college cafeteria.

Included in the evening's performances will be Les Chanteuses, a women's choir that focuses on music specifically written for the female voice; The Chamber Singers, a small mixed ensemble that specializes in madrigals and light jazz; Voices of the Canyons, the largest group, which focuses on large choral works with an orchestra; and the newest group, Just Jazz, which works on all styles of jazz literature, both a capella and accompanied by a musical trio.

``There is definitely something for everyone's musical tastes,'' said director Julie Lawson.

Tickets are $5 and reservations are suggested. Tickets can be reserved by calling (661) 362-3254.

Auditions for next year's choir season also are beginning. Singers with intermediate to advanced experience are encouraged to enroll and participate in the fall. Auditions are by appointment only. For more information, call Lawson at (661) 254-5848.

Artist to display watercolor works

VALENCIA - Jim Burns Jim Burns is an artist born in Cardiff, South Wales in 1948. In 1966 he joined the Royal Air Force seemingly on a quest to become a pilot. Due to standards he was unable to meet he was, however, forced to leave the Air Force in search of another direction in life. , a member of the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Artists Association, will demonstrate his painting in watercolor techniques to budding artists at 7:30 p.m. May 19 in the Community Room at the Valencia Town Center, 24201 Valencia Blvd., Valencia.

Big band show set for Valencia

VALENCIA - Super Jazz VII will perform big band sounds on several stages from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 17 at Valencia High School Valencia High School may refer to:

The Valencia High School Concert Jazz Band will host more than 40 junior and senior high school bands in the all-day jazz concert series. Valencia artist in container exhibit

VALENCIA - Valencia artist and designer Ellen Jantzen is one of 30 artists featured in the ``Box as Container'' exhibit running from May 17 through June 22 at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro.

Throughout history, boxes have been made as repositories for religious, spiritual and precious objects. Contemporary artists have expanded on that tradition by turning the box into distinctive, one-of-a-kind objects.

The boxes at the exhibit have been created from a wide array of materials including ceramics, glass, wood, paper, fiber and metal that has been painted, gilded gild 1
