Rock slide near Newhall hits car

NEWHALL - Recent rains were being blamed for a rock slide Thursday night on Little Tujunga Canyon Road at Osborne Road near Newhall.

One vehicle was caught in the slide, which was reported about 6:20 p.m., but injuries were negligible and the vehicle was towed away, according to CHP reports.

Woman, 90, dies in car crash

VAN NUYS - A 90-year-old woman died Thursday morning after the car she was riding in turned left into the path of another vehicle in Van Nuys, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not released, died at a hospital after the 7:55 a.m. crash at Hayvenhurst Avenue and Valerio Street, LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

House fire causes $300,00 damage

An estimated $300,000 in damage was caused in a house fire that broke out in the 8000 block of Okean Terrace, off Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. It starts off at Polk Street in Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley near the junction of the San Diego (Interstate 405) and the Golden State Freeways (Interstate 5).  in Mount Olympus, about 5:50 p.m. Thursday, fire officials said.

No one was home when the fire erupted, and investigators were blaming electrical problems for the blaze.

It took 30 Los Angeles firefighters about 40 minutes to knock the fire down, said fire department spokesman Jim Wells.

Antonovich makes plea to Mexico

The Mexican government has refused repeated requests for Armando Garcia's extradition. As a policy, Mexico doesn't extradite suspects facing either the death penalty or life in prison.

Police seek help to nab robber

PACOIMA - Police asked the public's help Thursday in identifying a videotaped thief who has committed a half dozen holdups in the Sylmar-San Fernando area and has used scissors scissors
