BRIEFLY CHP CRACKS DOWN ON DRUNK DRIVING.SANTA CLARITA - In an effort to reduce drunk driving, the California Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint Saturday and Sunday to remind motorists police are watching. Police stopped nearly 300 vehicles between 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Fitch Avenue in Canyon Country. One person was arrested on a charge of drunk driving. No other citations were issued. This was the fourth sobriety checkpoint the agency has conducted this year. - Daily News Hunters find car abandoned in woods SANTA CLARITA - Two hunters in the area of Bear Campground in the Angeles National Forest found an abandoned Honda Civic with a hose leading from the exhaust pipe into an unoccupied tent, police said Sunday. Officials have attributed the scene to a possible suicide attempt. Sean Bernard Kelly, 25, was reported missing last Sunday, but the search had not been fruitful until the hunters discovered the 1987 red Honda Civic yesterday. ``Search and rescue teams conducted an extensive search for the vehicle's missing persons, but no one was found,'' said Deputy Julia Honegger of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department.
