Metro Red Line sets rider record

Metro Red Line boardings in Los Angeles hit a record high last month and bus ridership was up largely due to spiraling gasoline prices, a Metropolitan Transportation Authority official said.

Weekday ridership on the Metro Red Line averaged 125,050 for the month, almost double the boardings in April 2000 - before the extension to North Hollywood opened. Weekday bus boardings in April averaged 1,196,042, up almost 100,000 from the same month last year.
