BRIEFLY CARJACKER SOUGHT BY BURBANK POLICE.


BURBANK - Burbank police officers were searching Wednesday night for a carjacker who confronted a man at gunpoint and stole his sport utility vehicle in parking structure near the IKEA IKEA Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd (Swedish home furnishings retailer founder's initials and location)  furniture store.

The victim was either returning to or leaving a black 1999 Mercedes sport utility vehicle when the suspect approached him, pointed a handgun and demanded the keys, police said.

The suspect got into the vehicle and was last seen heading northbound on First Street, said Burbank Police Sgt. Frank Taylor.

The suspect appeared to be about 30 years old and was described as a fair-skinned Latino man wearing dark clothing. The man was also described as being 6 feet tall, weighing 165 to 175 pounds, with a thin mustache.

Mobile home fire kills woman, 77

THOUSAND OAKS - A 77-year-old woman was found dead Wednesday in a double-wide mobile home that erupted into flames, officials said.

Ventura County firefighters responded to the fire at 2:05 p.m. after receiving reports from passers-by and neighbors in the 200 block of Madonna Lane, said Ventura County Fire dispatcher Debra Zinskey.

While battling the fire, firefighters discovered the woman's body inside the home.

Campaign urges students to teach
