In the Assembly, he had the powerful position of chair of the Budget Committee. He is now a Los Angeles City Councilman, representing the 6th district, which includes parts of the San Fernando Valley.  announced Monday that he would donate his 3 percent salary increase - nearly $4,000 - to three local charities.

Drug arrest made after police chase

A 32-year-old San Fernando man was in custody Monday after a police chase in a stolen car loaded with illegal drugs.

Huffington talk to kick off series

SHERMAN OAKS - The Valley Cities Jewish Community Center will host a series of talks by five speakers, beginning at 7:30 this evening with an appearance by commentator and former gubernatorial candidate Ariana Huffington.
