Bags discovered filled with animals

SAN FERNANDO - More than six garbage bags filled with what appeared to be animal remains were found hidden off the shoulder of the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Killer sentenced to 25 years to life

An architect was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the slaying of his then-girlfriend's madam in her Studio City luxury apartment.

Superior Court Judge Darlene Schempp ordered Alexander Gabay, 38, to serve the mandatory prison term Friday despite pleas for leniency from prominent architects and friends.

A jury convicted Gabay in January of second-degree murder for the Aug. 17, 2000, beating and shooting death of Lyudmyla Petushenko, 29.

WESTWOOD - About 200 opponents of the ``three-strikes'' law gathered Saturday at a protest rally.

State Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg, D-Los Angeles, has proposed a bill to amend the 1994 law and limit its stiffest penalties to those whose third offense is a serious or violent crime.
