BRIEFLY CAR CRASH KILLS 85-YEAR-OLD MAN.


NORTHRIDGE - An elderly man was killed in a traffic collision Thursday when another motorist ran a red light and broadsided his vehicle, police said.

The 85-year-old man, who was not identified pending notification of his family, was driving across the intersection of Nordhoff Street and Corbin Avenue at 2:20 p.m. when he was broadsided by the second vehicle, said Valley Traffic Sgt. Larry Taylor

The victim was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  where he died about 4:30 p.m., Taylor said.

The circumstances of the crash remained under investigation. The driver of the second vehicle was released from the scene, and detectives plan to reinterview him, Taylor said.

The teenager remained in the hospital's intensive care unit on Wednesday.

A neighbor told officers that two teenagers at her house, an 18-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, were showing similar symptoms and they were also taken to hospitals.

Chick last year criiticized the $60 million program, designed to promote clean energy, for failing to have adequate controls as well as examined how it was paying for various events, including parties.

7 buildings burned near downtown

A wind-driven fire destroyed or damaged seven buildings in a neighborhood north of downtown Thursday, but no residents were reported missing or injured, officials said.

More than 100 firefighters battled the flames, said Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.

Thick clouds of smoke roiled through Angeleno Heights before the blaze was contained. It was not expected to be declared out for several hours, officials said.

Police seek help in nabbing thieves

RESEDA - Police sought the public's help Thursday in identifying two burglars suspected of targeting the same Reseda gas station five months apart and whose images were captured on a surveillance tape.

The first intruder broke into Jack's Shell station in the 8000 block of Reseda Boulevard between 8 p.m. March 8 and 1:35 a.m. March 9.

The second burglar hurled a rock through the front door and stole cigarettes sometime between 10:30 p.m. Aug. 12 and 4:30 a.m. Aug. 13, police said.

The men were seen clearly in police video surveillance tape inside the store, but police had no witnesses.

Computer virus costly for Ventura

VENTURA - Ventura County officials estimated a computer virus-like worm that wiggled into thousands of the county's computers Wednesday would cost $75,000 to repair.

By Thursday afternoon, a few hundred of the county's 6,500 desktops and laptops were still being worked on after encountering the worm, knowns as ``MSBlast'' ``LoveSan'' or ``Blaster.''
