CALABASAS - A forum for candidates running for City Council will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Las Virgenes Unified School District Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) is a K-12 school district in north-west Los Angeles County, USA consisting of 14 public schools in the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Westlake Village, and several small portions of the West Hills section of Los Angeles.  headquarters, 4111 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas.

Incumbents Lesley Devine and James R. Bozajian face off against five challengers in the March 6 race for three open seats. Councilman Robert Sibilia, who was elected in 1997, resigned his seat Jan. 3 to take a job in Hawaii.

The challengers for the four-year terms are Karmen Brower, Leslie Abraham-Wolf, Michael Harrison

Man's body found in rural creek bed

 body of a middle-aged man was found in a creek bed alongside Highway 150, and officials said Tuesday he died of a gunshot wound.

The man's body was found about 2:15 p.m. Monday by a motorist who pulled off the highway to take a break, officials said.

Oscars suspect rejects plea deal

The brother of the man rewarded for finding dozens of stolen Oscars just before last year's Academy Awards show rejected a deal Tuesday to plead no contest to receiving stolen property in exchange for six months in jail.

Apartment fire's source sought

CANOGA PARK - City fire investigators were searching Tuesday for clues into the cause of a fire that gutted an upstairs apartment unit off Roscoe Boulevard.

Heavy fire was reported at 6:50 p.m. in the upstairs unit on the east side of the building, said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

About 40 firefighters responded to the blaze, and authorities blocked off both directions of traffic in the 21000 block of Roscoe Boulevard for about 30 minutes while they battled the blaze.
