Double murderer gets 2 life terms

VAN NUYS - A 25-year-old Sylmar laborer convicted of murdering a couple who owned a popular North Hollywood restaurant was sentenced Friday to two consecutive life prison terms without the possibility of parole.

Israel Pulido was found guilty Wednesday of capital murder in the Nov. 22, 2000, stabbing deaths of Eugenia and Sabato Russo, both 73, in their North Hollywood home, where he and others had recently installed a hardwood floor. The house was a few blocks from their eatery, Sabatino's Italian Restaurant.

Sentinel chickens to warn of virus

VENTURA - Sentinel chickens are being used as an early warning system that the California-bound West Nile virus West Nile virus, microorganism and the infection resulting from it, which typically produces no symptoms or a flulike condition. Free parent drug seminar planned

Suspect arrested in theft from bank

THOUSAND OAKS - A 42-year-old Thousand Oaks man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing $16,000 from a Union Bank branch after police found a large stash stash Drug slang noun A place where illicit drugs are hidden  of money in the home of the bank's cleaning crew member, authorities said.

Moorpark police arrested Alejandro Ortega after investigators found about $14,000 in his home Thursday, the day of the theft. After reviewing their surveillance videotape, bank employees suspected a member of the cleaning crew had taken the money from Union Bank in Moorpark.

Motorcyclist dies in crash with car

GRANADA HILLS - A motorcyclist was killed Friday when he crashed into a car that pulled out of a parking lot, police said.

The motorcyclist was traveling south on Zelzah Avenue near Chatsworth Street at 4:30 p.m. when a man driving a car pulled out from a parking lot, apparently into his path, said Sgt. Ken Buscarino of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division. The unidentified motorcyclist was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills where he died.
