`Big River' will be opening theater

VALENCIA - A select group of performers will be part of Santa Clarita history as College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  opens auditions for ``Big River!'' This will be the first event held in the new Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. .

``Since this is a musical, we're looking for actors, singers and dancers from a broad range of ethnic backgrounds,'' said director Mark Salyer, who most recently directed the college's critically acclaimed version of ``Jesus Christ Superstar.''

Based on the classic Mark Twain novel ``The Adventures of Huckleberry huckleberry, any plant of the genus Gaylussacia, shrubs of the family Ericaceae (heath family), native to North and South America. The box huckleberry (G. brachycera) of E North America is evergreen and is often cultivated. The common huckleberry (G.  Finn,'' ``Big River!'' is billed as a high-energy musical set in Mississippi that follows the trials and tribulations of Huckleberry Finn and his friend Jim, a runaway slave.

``Big River!'' will open Oct. 15 as the christening christening: see baptism.  event for the new theater, and will run for six shows over two weekends.
