BRIEFLY BOY, 3, HURT IN FALL FROM THIRD STORY.


LAKE BALBOA - A 3-year-old boy was in serious condition Saturday night after he fell about 30 feet from an apartment balcony onto a concrete pool deck, officials said.

The unidentified boy suffered severe facial and abdominal injuries and was flown by helicopter to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , where he was listed in serious condition after the 7:20 p.m. incident.

The child was playing with friends on a third floor apartment balcony in the 6600 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue when he toppled over the railing and onto the concrete, said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman Brian Humphrey. The boy's frantic mother dialed 911, Humphrey said. The fall knocked the boy unconscious for about five minutes.

Parents alerted to suspicious man

At 12:10 p.m. on Aug. 17 a man matching the same description on Church Street tried to lure a 13-year-old girl into his vehicle.

The suspect was described as a male Latino with black or brown short hair, approximately 20 to 28 years old, about 170 pounds and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. His vehicle was described as a beige, approximately 1998 sport utility vehicle.

Body found in car leads to arrest

VENTURA - Police arrested a man Friday in connection with the death of Irene Mata, whose body was found inside a vehicle after a crash July 26 on Bunsen Avenue, officials said.

Technology study aim of contests

Students at 18 Los Angeles high schools will soon be able to participate in a series of technical competitions designed to encourage further study in science and engineering.

Engineers from the city's Water and Power and Public Works departments will meet with students to help them learn about concepts such as electricity usage and energy conservation.

The first contest is set for Tuesday, when mentors from Public Works, the DWP DWP Department of Work and Pensions (UK)

Photo exhibition zeros in on 9-11

An exhibit of photographs taken near ground zero after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks began a nine-month run at the downtown Central Library on Saturday.
