SUN VALLEY - A 14-year-old boy was treated for minor injuries Friday at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  after being hit by a car, officials said.

The boy suffered scrapes to his ankles, feet, face and chest when he was hit in the 7400 block of Denney Avenue near Cohassett Street as he darted out from between a minivan and utility van, officials said.

Judge orders trial in May '00 slaying

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Kellogg said there is enough evidence to try Samuel Sharad Shabazz, 20, for murder in the May 28, 2000, killing of Lori Rene Gonzalez at a 24-hour Popeye's drive-through restaurant.

The charge against Shabazz includes a special-circumstance allegation that makes it a potential death penalty case, although prosecutors have yet to announce whether they will seek his execution if he is convicted.

Robber escapes with shop's cash

SIMI VALLEY - A masked gunman robbed the Dollar Smart check cashing business at 3998 Cochran St. early Friday, the Simi Valley Police Department The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) is the police department of the city of Simi Valley, California. The department currently has over 120 sworn officers, and more than 65 support personnel[1]. The department has a patrol area that covers over 39 square miles.  reported.

Two employees were opening the business when the man approached them and had them open up a safe, police said. The man fled with an undetermined amount of cash, leaving the employees in a back room. No one was injured.

Davis names five to Superior Court

Gov. Gray Davis on Friday announced the appointment of five judges to the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Lisa Lench, 48, of South Pasadena; Luis Lavin, 42, of Los Angeles; Joe Hilberman, 53, of Los Angeles; Michael Stern, 56, of Pasadena; and Anne Egerton, 47, of Los Angeles were appointed. All five judges will receive salaries of $133,051.

Students prepare robot creations

VALLEY GLEN - Students from 25 Los Angeles schools will show off their hand-built robots today during a competition at Los Angeles Valley College LAVC redirects here. For the software library, see libavcodec.

North Ranch man found wounded

THOUSAND OAKS - A 53-year-old man was recovering Friday from a minor gunshot wound suffered the night before in the affluent North Ranch area, authorities said.

The unidentified area resident was found near Westlake Boulevard and Cresthaven Drive. Sheriff's Sgt. Robert Sparks declined to give details about the circumstances of the shooting.

Chase takes path via pass to Malibu

CANOGA PARK - Police chased a sport utility vehicle from Canoga Park to Malibu early Friday morning before the driver was arrested, authorities said.

The pursuit started at 3 a.m. when the driver refused to stop as officers tried to pull him over, police said. Glendale to host holiday ceremony

GLENDALE - The city's 17th annual tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Perkins Plaza at City Hall, 141 N. Glendale Ave.
