Man hurt in crash dies of injuries

THOUSAND OAKS - A 20-year-old Newbury Park man died early Monday while undergoing surgery for injuries suffered in a two-car crash at Wendy Drive and Felton Street, officials said.

Jason Matthew Ferry died at 3:35 a.m. of head, chest and abdominal injuries, officials said.

< County pays claim for inmate's death

The Los Angeles County Claims Board on Monday approved a $35,000 settlement for Dorothy Nesbitt, the mother of a man who died at Men's Central Jail as a result of negligence and a failure to provide medical care, officials said.

The death occurred Sept. 3, 1999, when Lawrence Nesbitt was being held at Men's Central Jail awaiting a court appearance. About 3:15 a.m., fellow inmates told a sheriff's deputy that Nesbitt was having a seizure, talking incoherently, walking in circles, scratching the walls and saying, ``I need my meds,'' wrote Principal Deputy County Counsel Johanna M. Fontenot in Claims Board documents.

Church vandalism charges leveled

A man accused of beheading a statue of the Virgin Mary at a Culver City church and removing another statue from its pedestal and leaving it at a mosque was charged Monday with vandalizing religious property.

Emad Ibrahim Saad, 35, of Los Angeles pleaded not guilty to the charge during a court appearance.

RESEDA - Investigators were searching for clues Monday in a shooting that critically injured a 21-year-old Reseda man after he crossed Reseda Boulevard headed east on Valerio Street about 9:45 p.m. Sunday.
