The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:

Detectives not yet ready for session

Sheriff's detectives will not be ready to present a case against music producer Phil Spector at his scheduled court date next week, nearly six months after an actress was shot to death in his mansion, the lead investigator said Tuesday.

Spector, 62, whose ``wall of sound'' recording technique transformed 1960s pop music, was arrested for investigation of murder after the body of actress Lana Clarkson was found in the foyer of his mansion in suburban Alhambra on Feb. 3. He is free on $1 million bail.

Leaders, activists to be at meeting

NORTHRIDGE - Former U.S. Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros will join dozens of community leaders in Los Angeles this September at a conference to discuss the state's future.

The 15th annual ``Envisioning California'' Conference will be Sept. 25 and 26 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. The program is jointly produced by CSUN's Center for Southern California Studies and the Center for California Studies at CSU Sacramento.

This year's conference, ``Dynamic Diversity: Expanding the California Dream,'' will allow business leaders, community activists, politicians and educators to have discussions on what California's diversity means and how they envision the state's various sectors serving its diverse population.

Council supports longer hearings

``This is too major a project in terms of size and money to rush through in 45 days,'' said Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, who represents the area. ``There is a lot of interest in this project and we should give people an opportunity to comment.''

Hahn this week agreed with the council's objection to the time line and urged the Board of Airport Commissioners to extend it for a six-month period.

The U.S. Navy recently signed a $5.74 million software contract with University of Southern California-led team.

The Office of Naval Research The U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR), headquartered in Arlington, Virginia (Ballston), is the office within the U.S. Department of the Navy that coordinates, executes, and promotes the science and technology programs of the U.S.  will spend $5.74 million to expand the use of software for coordinating air operations and maintenance, developed by USC and Vanderbilt University, to the Marine Corps' entire lineup of tactical aircraft.

Garden party set on CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  campus

NORTHRIDGE - California State University Enrollment
 Northridge will host a Twilight Garden Party from 5 to 9 p.m. August 23 at in CSUN's botanical garden near the center of campus.

Sponsored by the College of Science and Mathematics, the third annual event will feature jazz performances, wine, beer and coffee tasting, refreshments, art displays and informal garden talks by docents.

Tickets for the party are $20 per person, or $35 for two if purchased before Aug. 6, and $25 per person and $45 for two if purchased after Aug. 6. To purchase tickets, or for more information, call (818) 677-3496.

Spiritual growth study is launched

The University of California Los Angeles is launching a national study on college students' spiritual growth.

 plans to survey 90,000 students on 150 campuses in the fall of 2004 to study the trends, patterns and principles of spirituality and religiousness among college students. A pilot survey was conducted this spring, with results to be released in late summer.
