The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:
  • District 1: Gloria Molina, Democrat
 voted Tuesday to call on Sheriff Lee Baca to re-evaluate the criteria used for the inmate trustee program after eight ``walk away'' escapes since July, including three in the last week.

The three inmates who escaped last week had one-year sentences. One had been convicted of being a felon An individual who commits a crime of a serious nature, such as Burglary or murder. A person who commits a felony.

Divorced woman pleads not guilty

VENTURA - A Simi Valley woman who reportedly shot her ex-husband in the back and claimed he ruined her life pleaded not guilty Tuesday to attempted murder charges that could make her eligible for life in prison.

Juanetta Dunlap, 51, is accused of attempting to kill her ex-husband, Anthony Thomas, 45, of West Hills, on Oct. 24.

In an earlier preliminary hearing, Thomas said he went over to Dunlap's house that night with the intention of helping her fix her car. But when he arrived, he said, she started rehashing their divorce and her financial situation, then shot him.

Firefighter sees charges dropped

VENTURA - Murder charges were dropped Tuesday against a Los Angeles County firefighter after prosecutors determined that he acted in self-defense when he fatally shot his wife's former boyfriend during an argument.

William Ernest Oney, 29, had been charged in the Oct. 17 slaying of Todd Michael Thies, 28, following a dispute at Oney's Waco Drive residence in Simi Valley.

Deputy District Attorney Chris Harman said that a person who kills another person who has entered his home unlawfully or violently is presumed to have acted in self-defense.

Dedicated mom joins torch ranks

SAN FERNANDO - Gloria Osorio of San Fernando was among more than 60 local residents who participated in the Olympic Torch Run through California.

Furniture store fire investigated

VAN NUYS - Arson investigators on Tuesday night sifted through the charred rubble of a furniture store, searching for clues to the cause of a blaze that left one man injured, authorities said.

The blaze, reported about 6 p.m., occurred at Del Sol Furniture in the lower half of a five-story building in the 7100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard.

One man was rescued and treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Investigators were going to question the unidentified man to find out what he was doing inside the building after hours, said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
