BRIEFLY BLOWTORCH SETS OFF BUILDING INFERNO.


PACOIMA - An auto wrecking business owner's blowtorch accidentally started an intense fire that sent flames shooting through the roof of a commercial building Saturday near Branford Street and Glenoaks Boulevard, a Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman said.

The blaze, reported at 1:24 p.m., was fueled by gasoline, oil and other highly flammable materials from about 20 cars inside the building and another 20 outside, said department spokesman Bob Colis.

``The cause was that the owner, sadly, was using a cutting torch while dismantling one of the cars, and it caught fire and spread,'' Colis said.

Man, 23, wounded in drive-by gunfire

Ballot Express can be timesaver

NORWALK - Registered voters who wish to cast absentee ballots in the March 5 election can use the Ballot Express Service, which allows voters to call ahead and have their ballot ready for pick-up within 24 hours, the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk said.

Ballot Express service can be requested by calling (562) 466-1323 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, through March 4.

Phones will also be in operation from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the two weekends before Election Day.

Ballot Express ballots can be picked up in Room 3002 of the Registrar's Office, 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk.
