Both sides of the contentious bilingual education bilingual education, the sanctioned use of more than one language in U.S. education. < Glendale forums seek applicants

GLENDALE - The city of Glendale is sponsoring a series of forums to bring people of different backgrounds together to discuss issues facing the community.

Those interested in participating are urged to fill out an application and submit it no later than Friday.

Applications are available at the Glendale City Manager's Office, 613 E. Broadway, Suite 200.

The forums are scheduled to run weekly from 7 to 9 p.m. at a variety of locations from March 13 to April 10.

Motorist returns to scene of injury

GLENDALE- A 33-year-old North Hollywood woman reportedly left the scene and then returned after hitting a pedestrian Sunday afternoon near Pennsylvania and Montrose avenues.

BURBANK - Burbank police warned Monday that two women working in a team are targeting the elderly in a scam to obtain money from the victims' savings.

One suspect approached an elderly woman walking out of a Kmart store Friday, claiming a bag with $90,000 inside was underneath the victim's car, police said.

In order to receive half of the money in the bag, the victim was told to withdraw $15,000 from her bank account to show good faith that she would follow through with the deal, police said.

The scam fell apart when a suspicious bank teller A bank teller is an employee of a bank who deals directly with most customers. In some places this employee is known as a cashier.

Tellers are considered a "front line" in the banking business.
