Katz named to state water board by Davis

SYLMAR - Former Assemblyman Richard Katz was appointed Friday to the state Water Resources Control Board by Gov. Gray Davis.

Katz would be paid $109,799 to serve on the board that works to ensure the quality of the state's water resources. The position requires state Senate confirmation.

Court throws judge off Rosenkrantz case

LOS ANGELES - An appeals court upheld the state attorney general's bid to disqualify To deprive of eligibility or render unfit; to disable or incapacitate.

To be disqualified is to be stripped of legal capacity. A wife would be disqualified as a juror in her husband's trial for murder due to the nature of their relationship.
 Van Nuys Judge Kathryne Ann Stoltz, who ordered convicted murderer Robert Rosenkrantz to be released from prison, from considering his case again, an attorney said Friday.

Rosenkrantz is serving a 17-years-to-life prison term for the 1985 shooting death of high school classmate Steven Redman, who exposed him as a homosexual.

Police: Dead woman may have been raped

One man dies after high-speed crash

GRANADA HILLS - A 21-year-old man was killed Friday after a collision with another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in a residential neighborhood, authorities said.

The 17-year-old driver of the second vehicle involved in the 5:15 p.m. crash in the 10500 block of Gothic Avenue was taken into custody for further investigation, police said.
