Funicular crash widow to go home

An 80-year-old woman whose husband died when two cars collided on the Angels Flight railway was released from the hospital Thursday night to recover at her New Jersey home.

Lola Praport of Old Bridge, N.J., spent two weeks at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center with serious back and neck injuries and will need months of rehabilitation, family spokeswoman said. She was scheduled to fly home late Thursday night.

The two-car railway, which carries passengers 300 feet up and down Bunker Hill, malfunctioned Feb. 1. Praport's 83-year-old husband, Leon, a Holocaust survivor, died from injuries suffered when the top car came loose and crashed into the bottom car they were riding.

The couple had been visiting Los Angeles for their 54th wedding anniversary.

 personnel went to the Bank of America on the 16600 block of Ventura Boulevard on Thursday afternoon to check on a reported suspicious attache case, the second time in two weeks, said LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

 Sgt. George Wright. About 50 people were evacuated from the bank and nearby businesses. A half-mile stretch of Ventura Boulevard between Balboa Boulevard and Hayvenhurst Avenue was closed, Wright said.

Bank employees had noticed the case under a piece of furniture about 1:15 p.m. The bomb squad arrived at 3 p.m. and took about 15 minutes to determine there was not a bomb. Police found a camera was inside the case.
