BRIEFLY BAG BRINGS BOMB SQUAD OUT TO LAX.

Meeting planned for senior center

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A public meeting will be held on the scope of an environmental impact study for a proposed 240-unit senior complex planned at the site of the Studio City Golf and Tennis Club.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Walter Reed Middle School Walter Reed Middle School is a year-round school located in North Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. Its original name was North Hollywood Junior High School.

CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  enrollment reaches new high

NORTHRIDGE - Enrollment at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , reached an all-time high this semester with 31,681 students, officials said Friday.

Enrollment tops the record 31,575 students set in fall 1988.

CSUN also announced its student body was recognized as one of the most international in the country.

The university ranked 17th among hundreds of colleges across the nation for the 2000-01 school year, with 1,081 international students among its enrollment of 29,066.

WEST HOLLYWOOD - A fire caused $1.2 million in damage to a three-story apartment building and displaced scores of people from their homes overnight, officials said Friday.

RIVERSIDE - A mistrial was declared Friday in the case of two former Rocketdyne employees accused of illegally burning chemical waste at the company's Santa Susana lab in 1994 that caused a deadly blast.

The U.S. District Court judge declared a mistrial after the jury deadlocked 10-2 in favor of conviction of Joseph E. Flanagan, 61, of Stanwood, Wash., and Edgar R. Wilson, 65, of Chatsworth of violating federal environmental laws.

Prosecutors said Flanagan and Wilson illegally burned waste at the lab on two occasions. On the second day, chemicals exploded killing two scientists.
