BRIEFLY AUTOPSY TODAY ON MAN'S BODY.


MALIBU - The body of a Mission Hills man was discovered washed up on a Malibu beach Malibu Beach (măl`ĭb), resort and residential area (1990 est. pop. 10,000), S Calif., W of Los Angeles and near Santa Monica.  Thursday afternoon.

There was no obvious sign of trauma on the body of Suhwan Sin, believed to be either 35 or 36, which was found on Broad Beach about 1 p.m., said Lt. Robert Fierro with the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy was expected to be performed today, Fierro said.

 withdraws tap water alert

A precautionary alert for residents of Pacoima and Arleta to boil their tap water following the rupture of a major water line was lifted Thursday.

 tap water, but tests Thursday showed the water was safe, said Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Gale Harris.

The rupture Wednesday morning near Devonshire Street and Woodman Avenue caused a partial collapse of the 6-foot-wide line and flooding in nearby Davenwood Park.

New power plant obtains approval

BURBANK - California Energy Commission The California Energy Commission is California’s primary energy policy and planning agency. Created in 1974 and headquartered in Sacramento, the Commission has responsibility for activities that include forecasting future energy needs, promoting energy efficiency through  staffers Thursday released a report that recommended approval of a 328-megawatt, natural-gas-fired power plant in Burbank.

The Magnolia Power Project would be on a 16-acre site on Magnolia Boulevard, next to the city's main power plant, to take advantage of the existing infrastructure.

The commission will hold several hearings before deciding whether to give the project its final approval.

Historical society to host park party

CHATSWORTH - The Chatsworth Historical Society will celebrate Pioneer Day on Sunday at the Homestead Homestead.

 cook-off, music, games, quilting quilting, form of needlework, almost always created by women, most of them anonymous, in which two layers of fabric on either side of an interlining (batting) are sewn together, usually with a pattern of back or running (quilting) stitches that hold the layers , washing on a scrub board, churning butter and a petting zoo. There will be demonstrations of blacksmithing, spinning, weaving and panning for gold.

An old-timers reunion will be held at 2 p.m. with prizes for former residents who have come the farthest distance and the oldest resident of Chatsworth.

A donation of $3 is asked at the gate for adults, and $1 for children.

Trial date set in reporter case

A judge confirmed a March 5 trial date Thursday in a lawsuit KABC-TV (Channel 7) reporter Adrienne Alpert filed against the makers of TV news van equipment involved in an electrical accident that nearly killed her in 2000.

In a complaint filed Dec. 14 that year, Alpert targeted the Will-Burt Co., Microwave Radio Communications, Quick Set International and Mobile Cam Products.

Place available on Design Board

GLENDALE - The city of Glendale has an opening on its Design Review Board. Glendale residents or those doing businesses in the city are eligible for appointment to the volunteer post.

Those interested in the position can pick up applications at the City Clerk's Office, 613 E. Broadway, Room 110. The filing deadline is Oct. 16.
