BRIEFLY AUTO THIEF ENTERS PLEA IN BOMB CASE.


CANOGA PARK - A convicted auto thief allegedly found with explosives, anti-government literature and possible plans to blow up buildings pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of possessing an unregistered destructive device A destructive device is a firearm or explosive device that, in the United States, is regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. Examples of destructive devices are grenades, and firearms with a bore over one half of an inch, including some semi-automatic shotguns. , officials said.

The trial of John Leon Noster III, 38, of Canoga Park is set for July 20. Prosecutors say the materials were found during an auto theft investigation, which led to Noster's arrest in November 2002 and his eventual conviction for car theft.

After his arrest, investigators searched two Lancaster storage facilities and a truck Noster had stolen.

Taft scholarships funded by Danza

WOODLAND HILLS - Actor Tony Danza is funding Taft High School scholarships totaling $6,000 at this evening's senior awards ceremony.

This is the 12th anniversary of the scholarship program founded by Suzanne Lewis in memory of Lamoun Thames, a Taft student who was stabbed by a gang member at Ventura Boulevard and Winnetka Ave in 1992.

Danza will be unable to make the presentation at Taft this year because he is in New York New York, state, United States

Child shot in head while in back yard

SYLMAR - A young boy was shot in the head Tuesday night in a Sylmar back yard, police reported.

Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations section said the youngster - variously reported as 5, 7 or 8 years old - was listed in serious condition after the shooting that was reported at 6:42 p.m. The child was said to have been playing with friends in the 15100 block of Nurmi Street.
