Probation sweep puts 7 behind bars

LANCASTER - A small-scale parole parole (pərōl`), in criminal law, release from prison of a convict before the expiration of his term on condition that his activities be restricted and that he report regularly to an officer.  and probation sweep Wednesday night netted seven arrests at nine apartments checked in Lancaster, officials said.

Two people were arrested on drug possession charges while five others were arrested for violations of the terms of their parole or probation or for various warrants, officials said.

``There were a few who were not complying with their terms so we got them off the streets and those who were complying are aware that they could be searched again,'' said sheriff's Sgt. Chris Haymond.

Sheriff's personnel went to nine apartments on Avenues J-2 and J-3 near 15th Street West after receiving complaints from residents and reports from patrol deputies about increased crime in the area.
