BRIEFLY AUDITOR LOOKING INTO TINY CHECKS.


In effort to find a more cost-efficient alternative to mailing tiny reimbursement checks, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to direct the auditor-controller to determine the costs of issuing checks and the number written for less than the costs.

``It was recently brought to my attention that the auditor-controller issued a check for only a few cents to pay a juror juror n. any person who actually serves on a jury. Lists of potential jurors are chosen from various sources such as registered voters, automobile registration or telephone directories.  for mileage,'' said Supervisor Don Knabe Donald R. Youth's backpack holds 9mm pistol

THOUSAND OAKS - A 16-year-old was arrested Tuesday at Thousand Oaks High School Thousand Oaks High School is a high school established in 1962 and located in Thousand Oaks, California. The mascot is the lancer.  after authorities found an unloaded 9mm pistol in his backpack, police said.

Assistant Principal Martin Manzer called police about 9 a.m. after receiving a tip that a student had a gun on campus. Although the handgun was found in the youth's backpack, no ammunition was found.

Officials said disciplinary measures may be taken.

Firm rules sought on Web site ads

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to reaffirm a 1996 order suspending advertising on county Web sites until a formal written policy can be developed.

The decision was prompted by the discovery that the registrar-recorder's Web site is linked to a Yahoo map page that helped people find their polling places. The page included a Visa credit card ad. The board ordered the ad and Yahoo map page taken off the site and replaced with a county-developed map page.

Military academy allotments open

SIMI VALLEY - Young people interested in an appointment to a U.S. military academy can attend information sessions sponsored by Rep. Elton Gallegly, R-Oxnard.
