BURBANK - Some 3,500 Burbank households and 675 businesses were without power for about an hour Tuesday morning after a crow flew into a breaker while work was under way on the power system.

The outage began at 9:08 a.m. and affected scattered homes and businesses east of the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964. , with most of the outages happening between the Glendale border and McCambridge Park. Power was restored at about 10:15 a.m.

Part of school is closed for leaks

BURBANK - Bret Harte Elementary School will need to spend about $25,000 to replace aging sewage pipes that were leaking this week, forcing the school to close several bathrooms at least until Friday, officials said Tuesday.

African wildcat loose in L.A. area

A spotted, big-eared cat native to Africa is roaming the Laurel Canyon area and could be a danger to children, a city official said Tuesday.
