BRIEFLY ARMED ROBBER HITS ASIAN RESTAURANTS.


ENCINO - A gunman held up two Asian restaurants along Ventura Boulevard Ventura Boulevard is one of the primary east-west thouroughfares in the San Fernando Valley; as it was originally a part of the El Camino Real (the trail between Spanish missions), Ventura Boulevard is the oldest route in the San Fernando Valley. It was also U.S.  on Thursday night in what police believe was part of a string of similar robberies.

The man, dubbed the ``Asian Restaurant Bandit bandit: see brigandage. ,'' was described as an African-American between 30 and 35 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing 180 pounds. He was armed with a 9mm blue steel handgun and concealed his identity with a ski mask, a blue bandanna and a black beanie bean·ie

The robber held up two eateries between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Thursday in the 18000 and 17000 blocks of Ventura Boulevard. No one was injured in the incidents. Police said the man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

There has been a series of similar robberies at Asian restaurants this year in the Valley. Anyone with information on them is asked to call the Robbery-Homicide Division at (213) 485-2511.

A Van Nuys man is among three suspects arrested on charges of using bogus W-2 forms to collect a total of $6,800 in state tax refunds, authorities said Friday.

The state's Franchise Tax Board said a man named Olivia Thompson, 29, of Van Nuys is accused of using a false W-2 to collect a $3,900 refund; Buddy Miles Buddy Miles is the stage name of American drummer and vocalist, George Miles. Born on September 5, 1947 in North Omaha, Nebraska, Buddy Miles was known as a child prodigy, originally playing drums in in his father, George Sr's band, The Bebops.[1]. , 35, of Carson, who also goes by Darryl G. Himes, is accused of receiving $1,600 he shouldn't have; and Kwasi Chris Miller Chris Miller is the name of:
  • Chris Miller (writer) (born 1942), American writer with National Lampoon
  • Chris Miller (American football) (born 1965), quarterback with the Oregon Ducks and the Atlanta Falcons
  • Chris Miller (television writer), creator of
, 29, of Palmdale is accused of receiving $1,200 by using a false W-2.

The three cases are unrelated, but each defendant faces charges that include filing a false tax return and grand theft, the FTB FTB Franchise Tax Board (California; they collect income and sales tax)

Food bank to gain from blood donors

WOODLAND HILLS - In response to a dearth of blood supplies, the Kaiser Permanente Kaiser Permanente is an integrated managed care organization, based in Oakland, California, founded in 1945 by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and physician Sidney R. Garfield.  Blood Donor Center is hosting a drive to trade food money for blood.

For every unit of blood donated to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland Hills through Dec. 21, the hospital will contribute $25 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

Last year, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank distributed 45 million pounds of food, much of it to needy residents of the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Four condors sent into wilds of Baja

The Los Angeles Zoo The Los Angeles Zoo founded in 1966, is a large zoo located in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The Zoo, located in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, is home to 1,200 animals from around the world.
 says it returned four young California condors to the wild in Baja California as part of a program to reinvigorate the condor population.

The birds had been reared at the Los Angeles Zoo under strict isolation from humans and with adult mentor birds helping in their rearing.

L.A. riots figure gets 30-year term

A man convicted of felony mayhem for a televised attack on trucker Reginald Denny during the 1992 Los Angeles riots was sentenced Friday to 30 years to life in prison for a drug dealer's murder.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Curtis B. Rappe also ordered Damian Williams, 30, to serve an additional 21 years in prison for a firearm theft charge and other violations. Williams had served four years of a 10-year term after he was convicted of felony mayhem for throwing a brick on Denny's head as the riots began.

Car-theft suspect is shot by police

ENCINO - A man believed to be driving a stolen car was shot by two LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.
2. LAPD - Los Angeles Police Department.
 patrolmen late Friday when he apparently brandished a handgun while running from the officers.

At 10 p.m., the patrolmen asked the man to get out of the car and were questioning him along Ventura Boulevard near Andasol Avenue when he decided to run, said LAPD Lt. Art Miller. The officers gave chase and the assailant pulled out a handgun, Miller said.

The officers opened fire, hitting the gunman at least once. The gunman was taken to an area hospital. His condition was not available.
