Female victim battles robber

STUDIO CITY - Police on Saturday were searching for a masked gunman whose robbery attempt was thwarted by a woman in her late 50s who fought him off.

The woman wrestled with him until the suspect pushed her to the ground and fired two shots at her. Hearing the commotion, two neighbors ran to help. The suspect fired two rounds at them and fled to a late 1990s model Acura parked down the street.

The woman sustained minor injuries. Police have yet to recover bullet casings and suspect the would-be robber could have been firing blanks.

Reagan stamp set to be unveiled

Subway train kills woman in tunnel

A woman wandering inside a Metro Red Line subway tunnel was killed Saturday afternoon by a train, officials said.

The woman, whose identity was not released, had been wandering on a prohibited part of the tunnel near the Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue stop when the incident occurred about 2 p.m., said Luis Inzunza, spokesman for the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

More than 300 were evacuated from the underground train and other trains were rerouted for more than three hours following the incident.

This marks the second person killed by a subway train in Los Angeles, Inzunza said.
