SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - The City Council is soliciting applications from people who wish to serve on the Community Gang Task Force.

The task force, chaired by City Councilwoman Barbra Williamson, was formed in 1995 to develop recommendations to resolve the gang situation in the city. It includes representatives from the Police Department and from the school and park districts.

Community members serve two-year terms on the task force. Arts, crafts event planned at park

SIMI VALLEY - The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District will hold its 29th Annual Harvest Festival Arts and Crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. The term was coined in England in the late 19th cent. as a label for the then-current movement directed toward the revivifying of the decorative arts.  Fair on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park, 5005 Los Angeles Avenue.

Admission is free.

More than 100 vendors are expected to display their wares in booths featuring hand-crafted jewelry, ceramics, quilts, wood crafts and holiday gift items.

Fund-raiser set at Reagan Library

Some of the items on the block include Hawaiian vacations, a weeklong stay on the Mexican Riviera, and a one-week stay in a farmhouse in the countryside of France.

The event will begin with a silent auction, followed by dinner, entertainment and an oral auction.

The event is sponsored by the Community Leaders Association, a group that has supported the university with more than $1 million over the years toward enhancements in equipment and technology.
