BRIEFLY ADMISSION CLOSES FOR CSUN TRANSFER.


NORTHRIDGE - California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , will close admission after today to undergraduate transfer students for the spring semester, officials said.

The campus had already stopped accepting applications from first-time students expecting to enroll at the university next spring as freshmen.

Undergraduate transfer applicants who do not file applications by today's deadline can apply for the fall 2002 semester, she said. Filing for the fall term began Nov. 1.

Woman commits suicide in church

CHATSWORTH - Police were investigating the death of a woman who appeared to have killed herself inside a Chatsworth church Wednesday.

About 3:30 p.m., a janitor at St. John Eudes Church at 9901 Mason Ave., discovered the body of the woman, who appeared to have been in her 40s, and called police, said Los Angeles Police Lt. Tim Moss, a watch commander at the Devonshire Division.

Upon arrival, police found the woman inside an unlocked room in the Catholic church, a small-caliber handgun nearby. Police said the woman appeared to have shot herself once in the chest.

Clerk knocked out during heist

SIMI VALLEY - A 7-Eleven store clerk was knocked unconscious briefly Wednesday during a robbery at the store at 1970 Sequoia Ave, police reported.

Man in shooting gets prison term

TORRANCE - A Redondo Beach man who shot and wounded a man he believed raped his wife was sentenced to one year in jail Wednesday.

Anthony Joseph Starita, 32, was also ordered by Superior Court Judge William Hollingsworth to serve three years probation.
