BRIEFLY ACTOR CONTRIBUTES TO STRIKING SAG FUND.


Harrison Ford contributed $100,000 to the Screen Actors Guild Foundation's strike fund, it was announced Thursday.

``We're thrilled by this extremely generous contribution by Mr. Ford,'' said Marcia Smith, executive director of the SAG's Foundation, which is administering the fund.

 and a major bookseller started a campaign Thursday to fight racism, anti-Semitism and bigotry.

``Close the Book on Hate'' is a joint effort between the ADL and Barnes & Noble.

It is designed to provide children, parents, caregivers, teachers and civic leaders with resources and programs aimed at ending prejudice and discrimination.

The national bookstore chain is promoting ``Hate Hurts,'' a children's book, offering in-store educational programs, community events, special displays of books and a reading list.

Judge pleads guilty to improper union

POMONA - A former judge will plead guilty to federal corruption charges for having a secret sexual relationship with a defendant while presiding over a case against the woman's husband, prosecutors said Thursday.

Former Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Superior Court Judge George W. Trammell III was charged Thursday with two felonies that carry up to 10 years in prison and $500,000 in fines. Trammel signed a plea agreement to plead guilty, prosecutors said.

Trammell was charged with two counts of mail fraud for using the U.S. mail in a scheme to defraud the people of California ``of their right to his honest services as a judge,'' a prosecution statement said.

Address paint scam warning is issued

Los Angeles fire officials warned Southlanders on Thursday that scam artists are posting notices that falsely imply that they must paint the address numbers of their residences on curbs in front of their property.

The notices are being posted in neighborhoods in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

``The Fire Department is not involved in this in any way,'' Humphrey said. ``While it is required to have the numbers on the front of the buildings themselves, it is not required to have the numbers painted on the curbs - that is optional, though recommended.''

Humphrey said the scam artists are charging $20 for the service.
