More than 800 high school students from throughout Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Finalists will be chosen by March through private auditions; the final competition is April 17 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is one of the halls in the Los Angeles Music Center (which is one of the three largest performing arts centers in the United States). The Music Center's other halls include the Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson Theatre, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. .

Hacker facing jail after guilty plea

OSSIPEE, N.H. - A teen-age hacker who was briefly linked to a highly publicized series of hacking attacks against major companies pleaded guilty Tuesday to three misdemeanors.

If a judge approves a plea agreement, Moran will serve nine months to a year in jail and pay $5,000 in restitution to each of three victims. He originally faced two felony charges, each punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Defendant denies insurance fraud

Stanley Furmanski entered his plea to 13 counts of mail fraud.

Furmanski is accused of collecting $4.5 million in insurance claims between 1986 and 1992, from a variety of companies that were unaware that he held policies elsewhere, said James V. DeSarno, assistant director in charge of the FBI in Los Angeles.

Agents have seized several of Furmanski's airplanes, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and negotiable instruments from his Los Angeles residence, which the FBI has linked to the allegedly fraudulent profits.
